Stingers close home slate with victory

WILLMAR - With 46 overall wins and counting, the Willmar Stingers certainly gave their fans plenty to cheer about this season.

They added an exclamation point with a superb effort offensively, defensively and on the mound in a 7-1 win over Rochester on Friday to close out their 2018 regular-season home schedule at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Starter and winner Noah Fluman and relievers Dylan Oliver and Michael Cartwright allowed just six hits and a fourth-inning solo home run, and the Stingers played error-free defense behind them.

Tyler Reichenborn had two hits, including a home run, and he drove in two runs, John Trousdale had two hits, drove in a pair and scored twice, and Eric Yang doubled in two runs.

The Stingers remain atop the Northwoods League North Division second-half standings at 24-11 with two regular-season games remaining at Thunder Bay, which entered Friday with just nine second-half wins. The Stingers and Border Cats play at 6:35 p.m. Saturday and at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.

The Northwoods League playoffs begin Monday.
