Amateur Baseball: NLS advances in Class C

NEW PRAGUE - Solid pitching performances and a three-run eighth inning helped the New London-Spicer amateur baseball team down Howard Lake 4-1 on Saturday in the opening round of the Class C state tournament.

NLS' Austen Hadley broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Twins starter Adam Nibaur allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings and Austin VerSteeg got the win with two perfect innings in relief.

Howard Lake took a 1-0 lead on Ben Borrell's run-scoring double in the fourth inning, but NLS' Mike Danielson tied the game with a sixth-inning solo homer.

The Twins advanced to play Chokio in the second round at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, in New Prague.
