Stingers' staff returns intact for 2019

The Willmar Stingers are sticking with what works.

The Northwoods League ball club announced Wednesday that 2018 field manager Bo Henning, along with assistants Al Leyva and Matt Caselli, will return to Bill Taunton Stadium next year. It will be Henning's third season with the club and second as the team's field manager. He worked as the pitching coach under then-field manager Matt Passauer in 2017.

"Bo, Al and Matt have all been a great fit for our team and organization," Willmar Stingers co-owner Ryan Voz said in a press release. "These guys had an outstanding rapport with the team and were able to help make them all better players this past season."

Henning excelled in his first year at the helm, setting franchise records of 48 regular season wins and overall home record (29-6). The Stingers claimed a second-half division championship in 2018 to clinch a fifth consecutive playoff berth. Willmar advanced all the way to the North Division Championship game, but fell to the Duluth Huskies.

During the Northwoods League offseason, Henning works as an assistant coach for Sacramento City College where the Panthers have earned top-25 national rankings each of the last two seasons. He also co-owns the Sacramento Sports Center, a baseball training facility, with his brother, Drew and father, Rich, a retired Major League Baseball scout.

Leyva, an assistant coach who manned the third base box for the Stingers in 2018, will also return. He served as an assistant coach alongside Henning for two years at Sacramento City College but will spend this year as an assistant with Pasadena City College.

Caselli joined the Stingers in 2018 and will return next year in the same capacity.
