SPICER - Trailing in both games against New London-Spicer on Thursday, Litchfield found a way to climb out of the abyss.

Thanks to a four-run top of the fourth inning combined with a strong relief effort from Avery Liestman, the Dragons were able to swipe Game 1 against the Wildcats, 6-5. Then in the nightcap, Cade Marquardt tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, then scored the game-winning run on an error in a 5-4 win.

Down 2-0 through three innings in the opener, Dylan Schutz scored on a grounder while Carter Block tied the game after scoring on a Tyler Peterson RBI single. An error lead to Liestman reaching home, followed by Peterson beating the tag at home for the inning's fourth run off an Owen Boerema double.

With a pair of unearned runs, NLS tied the game in the fifth before Peterson came up big again in the sixth with a ground rule double that brought home Jacob Schneider. Block scored the decisive run in the top of the seventh on an error.

Liestman threw 2.1/3 innings of relief to get the win, holding the Wildcats to one run (unearned) on one hit with five strikeouts. Boerema started the game, picking up 12 strikeouts in 4-2/3 innings.

In Game 2, Litchfield led 2-0 after a sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Max Tibbits in the first and third innings, respectively. But NLS climbed back with a three-run fourth when Payton Madison was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Christian Lessman scored on a passed ball and Jake Schmidt reached home on a grounder.

With the game tied at 4-all, Boerema led the inning off with a single, then reached third after an error and a passed ball before scoring on a Marquardt double. Two batters later, an error at first base allowed Marquardt to score the game-winning run from second base.
