Prep Baseball: Rocori ramps up bats, roars past Cardinals

COLD SPRING — With 31 hits over two games, Rocori's offense never hit a speed bump against Willmar.

Playing a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, the Spartans came away with the sweep over the Cardinals, with finals of 8-2 and 12-5.

Willmar was hitless until the seventh inning in Game 1. Jack Roehl got the team's first hit with a leadoff single, followed by an Ashton Gregory RBI single later in the frame that scored Roehl. Caleb Owens scored one batter later on a fielder's choice.

Brady Klehr and Brock Humbert had three hits apiece for the Spartans in Game 1, with Klehr scoring a run and an RBI. Jack Steil was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

In the nightcap, Willmar held a 3-2 lead through four innings. Drey Dirksen had an RBI double in the first, Roehl scored on an error in the third, then followed that up with an RBI single in the fourth that brought home Jayden Dierenfeld.

But, Rocori went on to have a nine-run top of the fifth. The Spartans had eight hits in the frame, including a bases-clearing triple from Klehr.

Sitting at 4-7 overall, Willmar will look to rebound Thursday with a pair of home games. The Cardinals will play St. Cloud Apollo at 4:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with Sartell set for 7 p.m.
