Prep Baseball: Cards gain sweep in Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS - Willmar swept Fergus Falls in a pair of Central Lakes Conference games thanks to key pitching Monday afternoon.

Willmar won 4-3 and 2-1.

In the first game, the Cardinals scored three runs in the second inning to rebound from a two-run Otter first inning and take a narrow lead. Willmar moved it to 4-2 in the fifth inning and never looked back.

The Otters outhit the Cardinals 9-8 but Tanner Bauman and Drey Dirksen each buckled down to keep Fergus Falls from reaching home too often. Bauman earned the win after six innings of work. Dirksen struck out three batters in the seventh, allowing one unearned run in the inning.

Bauman and Andy Schultz each logged a pair of hits with an RBI.

Jayden Dierenfeld allowed just two hits in a narrow 2-1 Willmar win.

The Cardinals jumped on the board in the first inning with a Caleb Owens run but Fergus Falls tied things in the fifth inning.

Willmar took the slimmest of leads in the sixth inning, though when Tanner Bauman, running for Dierenfeld, scored on Wade Fischer RBI single.

Ashton Gregory finished with two of Willmar's five hits.

Cristian Lessman allowed a run on two hits and struck out eight as New London-Spicer won the opening game of a Wright County Conference doubleheader on Monday.

NLS' Diego Rojas had three hits, including a double, and he drove in two runs. Ethan Haugen had two hits and an RBI and Nick Perkins had two hits and scored twice.

Tied at 10-all with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Christian Lessman hit a walk-off single to left-center to give New London-Spicer an 11-10 win over Mound Westonka, completing the Wright County Conference sweep on Monday.

Lessman finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs. Diego Rojas went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base for the Wildcats.

Trent Pientka got the win after throwing the final two innings for NLS.

Aker allowed just two walks and struck out 10 in five innings. Homan allowed a hit and walked two while striking out three.

Alex Call fired a three-hitter and struck out 13 as KMS defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Monday in Sunburg.

Call worked 6-2/3 innings and walked two. Weston Gjerde recorded a strikeout to end the game and earn the save.

Regan Carlson was 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and Isaac Call and Christian Diederich drove in the Saints' other runs. Gjerde had two hits and scored twice.

Grady Fuchs pitched a one-hitter as Paynesville defeated Holdingford on Monday in Paynesville.

Fuchs allowed just an Alex Lange single with two outs in the first. Fuchs then hit two-straight batters to load the bases before getting a strikeout to end the threat.

Fuchs allowed his lone walk to lead off the third but then set down 12 straight before he hit another Husker leading off the seventh. He struck two of the next three batters to end the game.

Luke Johnson's RBI double in the first inning brought home the eventual winning run, and Carter Wessel, Levi Bast and Sam Oehrlein also drove in runs to spot Fuchs a 4-0 lead in the second inning.

MCA's Cade Fehr had two hits and drove in two runs and Colten Scheldorf and Kevin Asfeld also had RBIs. Zach Bruns allowed two earned runs in seven innings to get the win.

Benson's Will Enderson had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and Matthew Lenarz doubled and drove in a run.
