Stingers end skid with sweep of Express

WILLMAR - The Eau Claire Express made an express stop in Willmar on Tuesday and, in a jiffy, helped the Stingers solve their offensive woes.

The Stingers had trouble generating much offense during a three-game losing streak but they managed 20 hits and 15 runs in a doubleheader against the Express and came away with 7-3 and 8-3 victories.

In Game 2 on Tuesday night, Patrick Bordewick and Daniel Walsh both had two hits and drove in two runs, and Justin King singled and had an RBI. Brendon Bohning had two hits and scored twice.

Polo Portela worked seven strong innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out six without issuing a walk. Christopher Peres finished up, allowing a run in two innings.

In Game 1, starter John Bezdiceck and reliever Austin Reich split duties, with Bezdicek allowing a run on five hits in five innings to get the win. Reich allowed two unearned runs in four innings.

The Stingers ripped up Eau Claire starter Andrew Tri, who surrendered six runs on eight hits in four innings. Express reliever Nate Davis didn't fare a lot better.

Bordewick had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice, Chase Stanke had a double among his two hits and had two RBIs and Bohning had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Justin King also had two hits and Noah Haupt singled in two runs.

After playing in Willmar on Monday, St. Cloud returns to town to face the Stingers at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

A four-run third inning helped Willmar VFW Post 1639 down Alexandria on Tuesday.

Willmar's Andrew Baumgart had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. He also worked six innings to get the win.

Post 1639's Dylan Arndorfer tripled and drove in two runs.
