WILLMAR — The Cal Poly connection continues to pay dividends for the Willmar Stingers.
Sophomore Reagan Doss and freshman Bryce Warrecker will play for Willmar's Northwoods League entrant this summer. They are the second and third players on the roster who play for California Polytechnic State University this year.
Also on the squad is returning pitcher Kyle Scott, another Cal Poly player. Doss played for Boise State University last year. But the school has dropped its baseball program and Doss has transferred to Cal Poly.
"Cal Poly was able to pick up a quality player in Reagan Doss," said Stingers co-owner Ryan Voz. "We're excited to continue our relationship with the Mustangs program and with coach Larry Lee."
Doss is from Round Rock, Texas. He batted .333 with two home runs, 10 runs and seven RBI for Boise State in limited action when the 2020 season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Warrecker is a highly recruited right-handed pitcher from Santa Barbara, California. He was 4-0 with an 0.88 earned-run average over 32 innings with 24 strikeouts his junior year of high school.
The Stingers now have 12 players under contract for 2021. They open play Monday, May 31 at Bismarck, North Dakota. Willmar's home-opener is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 2 against the Eau Claire Express.
