FARGO — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks baseball team has signed former Concordia Cobbers pitcher Austin Ver Steeg to a contract, according to a release on the Cobbers athletics website.

Ver Steeg, a 2020 Concordia graduate who attended Minnewaska High School, was 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three starts and 18 innings in the shortened 2020 season. He finished his Cobbers career with a 2.14 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 142.2 innings pitched.

Ver Steeg earned back-to-back all-region honors in 2018 and ‘19. Additionally, Ver Steeg was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team in 2018 and ‘19.

He led the Cobbers in ERA in 2018 and ‘19. Ver Steeg finished 2019 with a 1.41 ERA in 44 ⅔ innings pitched. He also led the team in walk-plus-hits/innings pitched (WHIP) with a 0.895 mark. Ver Steeg started eight games in 2019 and went 3-4. He struck out 43 and held opponents to five extra-base hits and a .194 batting average.

The RedHawks are an independent professional team in the American Association. They are managed by current Cobbers head baseball coach Chris Coste.

Stingers add a

catcher and

an infielder

The Willmar Stingers announced Wednesday the signings of Steve Ramirez of Purdue University and Will Hamiter of the University of Alabama.

The latest additions bring the Stingers’ roster up to 16 players signed on to join the team for its 12th season in the Northwoods League.

“We have had great relationships with these programs and coaches over our previous 11 seasons,” Stingers co-owner Ryan Voz said in a press release. “The Boilermakers and Crimson Tide programs have continued to put their players in the rights spots to succeed.”

Ramirez, a sophomore infielder from San Bernandino, California, transferred to Purdue last fall after playing two seasons at Riverside Community College in California. Last spring, he had a .333 batting average with six extra-base hits and 20 RBI in 20 games for the Tigers.

from Tuscaloosa, Hamiter enters his freshman year with the Crimson Tide. He enjoyed a four-year playing career at Northridge High School in his hometown. There, he set the program’s single-season records for home runs (9), RBI (46) and triples (4).

The Stingers open the 2021 season on Monday, May 31 at Bismarck, North Dakota. Willmar's home-opener is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 2 against the Eau Claire Express.
