RAYMOND — An early six-run inning for the Willmar Rails led to a narrow 6-5 Corn Belt League victory over the Raymond Rockets at Lilleberg Field on Sunday.

With the victory, the Rails have earned an automatic berth into the Region 4C tournament.

After two scoreless innings, Willmar scored six straight runs to take a 6-0 lead over the Rockets.

Despite having the six-run inning, Willmar was unable to score another run.

Raymond did not score its first run until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Rockets followed it up with three runs in the seventh, making the score 6-3.

Raymond reached home once more in the bottom of the eighth but were unable to continue its scoring streak in the ninth, resulting in Willmar taking the victory.

Ian Koosman and Zak Madsen both recorded two hits for the Rails. Jordan Steffer hit 1 of 4 with two RBI, his lone hit being a home run.

Christian Lessman earned the win for the Rails, pitching 6-2/3 innings with five strikeouts and seven hits. Patrick Courtney got the save with 2-1/3 innings pitched, striking out five batters and allowing two hits.

Tyler Steen and Mike Jeseritz both had home runs for the Rockets. Steen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs while Jeseritz had two RBIs and a run. Caleb Ditmarson was hit with the loss after starting the game for Raymond.

Granite Falls 5

A scoring consistency against Granite Falls resulted in the Bird Island Bullfrogs taking the Corn Belt League win over the Kilowatts at Lions Memorial Field in Bird Island.

With the victory, the Bullfrogs won the Corn Belt title with an 11-3 record. They will also be the top seed in the Region 4C tournament.

Bird Island held a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth when it scored two more runs to make it 5-0.

Granite Falls answered by getting its first two runs on the board in the top of the fifth before the Bullfrogs scored twice more in the sixth, keeping the deficit at five.

The Kilowatts scored its final two runs in the top of the seventh before Bird Island scored its final three in the same inning.

Bird Island’s Logan Swann nearly got the cycle, hitting 3 of 4 with a double, triple and a home run. He finished with three runs, three RBI and two walks.

Bird Island will play the Gaylord Islanders at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gaylord.

The New London-Spicer Twins ended its regular season by out-hitting the Starbuck Stars 18-4, leading to a shutout victory in County Line League play at Green Lake Diamonds in Spicer.

The Twins began its scoring spree with two runs in the bottom of the second before scoring six in the fourth, four in the fifth and nine in the sixth.

Seven players on the Twins finished with two or more hits in the game.

The Twins’ Adam Schrader finished 4 of 5 with two doubles, four runs and two RBI; Scott Rambow hit 3 of 4 with two runs, three RBI and a walk. Mike Danielson hit 3 of 4 with a home run, and three RBI.

Adam Nibaur recorded the win for the Twins with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Michael Andreas, Jackson Hendrickson, Luke Barkheim and Luke Levasseur accounted for all four of the Stars’ hits. Matt Gruber took the loss after throwing the first 3-2/3 innings.

Despite a late push for the lead by Norway Lake-Sunburg, Regal came away with the County Line League victory in Regal.

The Eagles held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the game before scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lakers finally got on the board with five runs in the top of the seventh.

Josh Beier hit 2 of 5 with a home run and a double. He tallied three RBI and scored twice.

Brandon Wedel started for the Eagles but was replaced by Shane Radermacher who earned the win in 1-2/3 innings pitched.

The Lakers' Weston Gjerde took the loss with 5-1/3 innings pitched. Josh Peterson and Justin Johnson both had two hits. Peterson drove in three runs while Johnson reached home twice.

Paynesville and Atwater combined for 24 hits, but it was the Pirates who left Kingery Field in Atwater with a County Line League win over the Chuckers.

Luke Johnson provided the big bat for Paynesville with three solo home runs and a sacrifice fly, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs. Grant Fuchs and Griffin Bjerke both had two hits, with Bjerke driving in two runs for the Pirates. Grady Fuchs got the win with seven strikeouts over eight innings while Johnson finished the last inning to get the save.

Jack Peterson finished 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Atwater. Afton Kaping was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Zach Olson was hit with the loss following a six-inning effort.
