WILLMAR — The Willmar Stingers ran into the Duluth Huskies’ best starting pitcher Sunday and it showed in the final score.

Duluth beat Willmar 7-2 before 803 fans at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The victory enabled the Huskies (11-11 Great Plains East, 23-33 overall) earn a split in the four-game series at Willmar (11-11 Great Plains West, 27-31 overall).

Leading the way for Duluth was Will McEntire. The right-hander from the University of Arkansas improved his record to 5-0 with seven solid innings against the Stingers. He struck out eight, walked one and allowed six hits and one earned run. McEntire has a 2.24 earned-run average this season in 52 1/3 innings, striking out 50 and walking 17.

The loss tarnished an impressive debut for Willmar’s Christopher Campos. The shortstop from Hacienda Heights, California, and Saint Mary’s College (Cal.) went 4-for-4 with an RBI in his Northwoods League debut.
