ANNANDALE — The New London-Spicer girls basketball team earned a tough road victory over Annandale on Friday night, 62-49.

NLS, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class A, led 30-28 at halftime. It was back and forth and tight for most of the game, Wildcats assistant coach Joey Dreier said.

Annandale, coached by Matt Dreier, made NLS, coached by Matt’s dad Mike Dreier, work hard for its points.

“It was a back-and-forth battle,” Joey Dreier said. “It was fun.”

NLS is adjusting to playing without Grace DeScheppers. The 6-foot-1 senior post tore knee ligaments going up for a rebound against Litchfield and is out for the season.

“That’s a big-time heartbreak for us,” Joey Dreier said. “She was huge for us.”

On Friday, Erin Knisley and Ava Kraemer helped pick up the slack inside. Knisley, a 6-2 senior, had 24 points and nine rebounds. Kraemer, a 6-0 senior, added nine rebounds. Emma Hanson had 14 points and MacKenzie Rich added 13 points and six teals.

NLS is host to Dassel-Cokato at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
