BBE captures Jaguar Early Bird title

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa edges Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville for first place as 2 Jaguars reach milestones

BELGRADE — The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa wrestling team came away as the champions of Wednesday’s Jaguar Early Bird.

BBE won the seven-team invitational with 223.5 points to edge second-place Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville 206.5.

Morris Area/Hancock Area/Chokio-Alberta took third with 151 and New London-Spicer was fourth with 131.5.

The meet initially was to have 11 teams, but four didn’t make it because of Wednesday’s snowstorm.

Outstanding wrestler of the tournament went to New London-Spicer’s Ty Bisek, who won the 113-pound class with a 3-0 record. Included was a 5-3 overtime decision over BBE’s Walker Bents in the title match.

Two BBE wrestlers reached milestone victories. Jaguars 145-pounder Canon Swanson won his 174th career match, a school record. And, BBE 138-pounder Blaine Fischer recorded with 100th career win.
