UPSALA -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa had a runner in scoring position in every inning except the seventh, but the Jaguars couldn't drive in a run as Upsala/Swanville Area blanked BBE 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Section 5A-West playoffs Friday.
No. 6-seed BBE (7-12) outhit the No. 3-seeded Patriots (12-2), but two of USA's four hits drove in at least one run. Brandon Welinski smacked a two-run double in the first and Jake Johnson had an RBI single in the fourth.
BBE, which loaded the bases in the sixth, was limited to Brandon Roelike's double and singles from Brandon DeKok, Brady Weller, Brady Koehler and Kirby Montbriand.
Pat Ripplinger struck out 12 and walked two to get the win, while Weller was tagged with the loss despite striking out seven and allowing only four hits and two walks.
