BIG LAKE - Ten players found the scoring column for Willmar on Friday, but eight of them made only one basket apiece as the Cardinals were upended 64-40 by Big Lake in a non-conference game.
The Hornets (3-6) owned a 37-19 lead at halftime and were 17-for-18 at the free throw line. Willmar (3-5) made five free throws in 11 trips and shot 38 percent from the field.
Max Trochlil led the Cardinals with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting. The senior also had a team-high seven rebounds. Big Lake had a plus-14 advantage on the boards.
Noah Slagter gave Willmar another 10 points and Tyler Johnson grabbed five rebounds.
Willmar hosts Fergus Falls in a girls-boys doubleheader on Tuesday. The girls square off at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
