ST. PETER - Only one separates the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City boys basketball team and its first state tournament. That’s because the Falcons edged Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity 60-57 in the Section 2A-North title game Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Falcons, winners of seven on their last eight games, will take a 20-7 record into the section championship at 6 p.m. Friday at Minnesota State in Mankato against United South Central (21-4).
ACGC freshman Gabe Eisenbacher made the go-ahead basket to make it 57-56 Falcons, and three free throws - two from Taylor Larson and one from Brody Larson - put the game away.
Taylor Larson’s 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Colton Minnick’s 14 rebounds and 11 points provided a pair of double-doubles for the Falcons. Neither team shot well from the field and the Bulldogs (15-13) were 13-for-14 from the foul line, but ACGC owned a 47-31 advantage in rebounds to power into the section final.
The Falcons also got 12 points from David Kinzler and 10 points and 3 steals from Brody Larson.
ACGC also beat the Bulldogs 63-57 back on Dec. 2 in Grove City.
