Boys Basketball: Athmann hits 1,000 but Morris/CA earns win

BIRD ISLAND -- BOLD's Kyle Athmann surpassed career 1,000 points but the Warriors fell to Morris/Chokio-Alberta 54-47 on Thursday, clinching second place in the West Central South for the Tigers.

BIRD ISLAND -- BOLD's Kyle Athmann surpassed career 1,000 points but the Warriors fell to Morris/Chokio-Alberta 54-47 on Thursday, clinching second place in the West Central South for the Tigers.

Morris/CA's Logan Manska scored 21 points and Austin Dierks had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Morris/CA finished its conference schedule 8-3, behind only WCS champ Montevideo.

Athmann led the Warriors with 25 points. He entered the game needing 24 to reach 1,000 poinst.

The Warriors finished 6-6 in the conference and they are 13-10 overall heading into Saturday's Section 3AA North Sub-Section game against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 7 p.m. Saturday in Bird Island.

ACGC (8-4, 15-9) will see New Ulm Cathedral 7 p.m. Tuesday in Grove City.

Trever Heining led the Falcons with 19 points and 15 boards.

Dylan Hoerchler added 15 points and 6 assists, and Logan Jacobs had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Elliot Carmany led the Sting with 12 points and Devon Dyrdahl had 11.
