Boys Basketball: BOLD edges BBE in OT

WILLMAR -- Thomas Meyers made two free throws with two seconds remaining in overtime to lift BOLD past Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 68-66 Friday in the Bremer Bank Holiday Classic hosted by the Willmar Cardinals.

WILLMAR - Thomas Meyers made two free throws with two seconds remaining in overtime to lift BOLD past Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 68-66 Friday in the Bremer Bank Holiday Classic hosted by the Willmar Cardinals.

The Jaguars owned a 28-20 lead at halftime, but BOLD pounded the paint and forced extra time after outscoring BBE 44-36 in the second half. Neither squad took control in overtime, combining for just six points in the five-minute period.

BBE was at the free-throw line with three seconds left in OT, but missed both shots. Meyers grabbed the defensive rebound after the second miss and cashed in both opportunities at the charity stripe to finish with a team-high 20 points.

Nick Kubesh followed Meyers in the scoring column with 18 points and Ethan Weis chipped in another 15. Meyers added 11 rebounds, Ethan Weis six assists and Austin Weis nine rebounds.

Tanner Heinsius paced a three-player group that scored in double figures for the Jaguars with 31 points. Dalon Bitzan added 12 points and Austin Trustheim 10. Trustheim also supplied eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

Both teams conclude play in the tournament Saturday with BOLD (3-4) meeting Windom (5-4) at 2 p.m. and BBE (2-6) playing Benson at 4 p.m.
