LITTLE FALLS - A nine-point run to end the first half sparked the BBE boys basketball team and the Jaguars rolled into the Section 5A championship game with a 70-43 win over Kimball on Tuesday at Little Falls High School.

The teams were tied at 25 but Trey Heinsius tipped in a shot at the buzzer to cap the 9-0 run that put the Jaguars up 34-25.

“That really got us going in the second half,” said BBE head coach Dave Montbriand. “After that, we wore them down.”

Brian Goodwin led the Jags with 24 points and 5 assists, Tanner Heinsius scored 16 points and Trey Heinsius finished with 15 points. Billy Borgerding scored 4 points and had 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

The Jaguars (27-1) will now play Browerville (21-5), the North champion, Friday at 7 p.m. in the section title game at Crosby-Ironton High School in Crosby. BBE beat Browerville 87-62 on Jan. 25 in Belgrade.

The win Tuesday brought the BBE record the last four seasons to 117-4. One of those losses was in the 2011 Class A championship game and the other this past December to Class AAAA defending champion Apple Valley.

Since going 13-14 and losing to Paynesville in the postseason opener in 2008, Montbriand’s teams have not failed to win at least 24 games in a season with a high of 33-0 in 2011-12.  Those six teams have a combined 166 victories against 13 losses.

BBE beat Kimball twice during Central Minnesota Conference play by a combined 80 points, including a 90-36 thrashing in the regular-season finale.
