Boys Basketball: Montevideo tips Waska for second

MONTEVIDEO -- In a battle waged for second-place honors in the West Central South, Montevideo subdued Minnewaska in the second half to claim a 61-56 win on Monday.

MONTEVIDEO -- In a battle waged for second-place honors in the West Central South, Montevideo subdued Minnewaska in the second half to claim a 61-56 win on Monday.

Both squads came in 12-3 in the conference. The Lakers were in front after one half, 34-29, but Montevideo got the lead with about five minutes left and then converted 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to claim its sixth consecutive victory.

Ryan Boike's four 3-pointers and 21 points led Montevideo (14-9). Colton Vien added 12 points, plus five steals, and Jake Douglas 10 points, plus six rebounds.

The Lakers' Shane Bosek led all scorers with 25 points, 16 coming in the first half.

Montevideo will host Yellow Medicine East on Saturday in Section 3AA.

In the second half, CMCS cranked up the defensive intensity and held Wabasso to 19 points.

Erickson finished with 28 points and six assists to lead the Bluejays. Jordon Daugherty followed with 21 points. Joey Grussing pulled down six rebounds.
