Boys Basketball: NLS throttles Foley to earn share of North title

NEW LONDON -- With the help of Aaron Johnson's 21 points and the team's 58-percent shooting, New London-Spicer clinched at least a share of the West Central North Conference boys basketball title by beating Foley 79-64 Tuesday.

NEW LONDON -- With the help of Aaron Johnson's 21 points and the team's 58-percent shooting, New London-Spicer clinched at least a share of the West Central North Conference boys basketball title by beating Foley 79-64 Tuesday.

The Wildcats are now 13-2 in the conference with one game left on their loop schedule, next Tuesday at home against Melrose. Albany is 11-3 in the North with St. Cloud Cathedral and Mora left on its conference schedule.

Johnson scored 14 points in the first half to help the Wildcats own a 40-29 lead at halftime. NLS was 31-for-53 from the field while Foley was only 26-for-60 (43 percent).

Jay Moten, Erik Tengwall and Jack Hartley all added 12 points each for the Wildcats, who also had a 41-33 edge in total rebounds. Johnson pulled down nine rebounds and Tengwall handed out seven assists.

It was a one-point game with just over one minute left in the first half before Dawson-Boyd (13-11) went on a run to take a 30-22 lead at halftime. Colin Bergeson had 19 points, Andrew Roiger 14, Kruiz Lindblad 13 and Donnie Hermanson 10 to pace the Blackjacks.

Lac qui Parle Valley (6-16) had Baxter DuFrane score 15 points and Tronn Tosel add another 14.
