Boys Basketball Roundup: BOLD Warriors take down Sauk Centre

Warriors beat Mainstreeters, 70-63

BIRD ISLAND — Top-ranked (Class A) BOLD secured a win in its regular-season finale Monday as the Warriors held off Sauk Centre for a 70-63 boys basketball win Monday at BOLD Elementary School.

Drew Sagedahl had a BOLD-best 28 points. Older brother Jordan Sagedahl went off for 19 points, 16 rebounds (seven offensive) and three assists. Drew hit five 3-pointers. Jordan was 4-for-4 from outside the arc.

Gavin Vosika added 11 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and six steals and Matt Moorse scored eight points for BOLD.

Earning the top seed in Section 2A-North, the Warriors play the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 9 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart and No. 8 Cleveland on Saturday in Bird Island.

Froelich led the visitors with 38 points. Levi Bast added 13 points.

Montevideo earned its first victory of the season with the victory over Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

It was Montevideo’s first victory since Jan. 11, 2019 when the Thunder Hawks beat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 67-64 in Montevideo.

Bradyn Schultz had 15 points and Sam Olson, Colby Buseman and Cade Weber all had 14 points for the Thunder Hawks. Olson also contributed 13 rebounds.

For YME, Carter Sneller had 19 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Cody Dahlager added 13 points, five assists and four steals and Kyle Chase had 12 points and four three-pointers for the Sting.

No. 8 Montevideo plays No. 1 Minnewaska in the Section 3AA-North playoffs at 7 p.m. Saturday in Glenwood.

No. 10 YME plays at No. 7 Minneota at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Section 3A-North playoffs.

Dan Savageau led the Silverstreaks with 27 points.

Dawson Miller paced ACGC with 21 points along with seven rebounds. Steven Lawver and Josh Kinzler both had 13 points, with Lawver hauling in nine rebounds.

Matt Thompson put together a monster night for Hancock, leading the Owls to a non-conference win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls.

Thompson led all scorers with 24 points and also ripped down 23 rebounds. Brandon Kellenberger added 12 points for Hancock.

The Owls await seeds for Section 6A-South to be released. Play-in games are set for Monday, March 2. The quarterfinals take place Thursday, March 5.
