MORRIS - Jacob Zosel scored 24 points and Eric Staebler notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, lifting No. 3-seeded Morris/Chokio-Alberta past No. 6 Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 84-67 in the quarterfinals of the Section 3AA-North Tournament Saturday.

The Tigers will meet No. 2 Minnewaska in the semifinals Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Granite Falls.

The Tigers (16-11) led 38-26 at halftime before producing another 46 points in the second half. Also scoring in double figures for MCA was Camden Arndt with 13 points and Philip Anderson 10.

Arndt nearly gave the Tigers another double-double as the freshman hooked nine rebounds, to go along with four assists. Staebler had a team-high five assists and Anderson added three steals.

Colton Minnick sparked ACGC with 21 points, seven assists, five rebounds and a couple of steals. Adam Johnson supplied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Gabe Eisenbacher chipped in 12 points.

Montevideo 64, YME 36

Montevideo ended the Sting’s season Saturday, notching a dominant 64-36 win behind 19 points from Riley Emery in the opening round of the section 3AA tournament.

Travis Dreyer added 15 points and six rebounds for the Thunder Hawks, who also got nine points, six rebounds and four assists from Troy Diggins and led 36-11 at halftime.

Tommy Lindstrom led YME with eight points.

The top-seeded Thunder Hawks move on to play New London-Spicer Tuesday in Granite Falls.

Minnewaska 65, Benson 52

The second-seeded Lakers took down the Braves in the opening round of the Section 3AA Tournament, ending their season.

Jake Peters scored 20 points with four steals for Minnewaska and Austin VerSteeg had the game’s only double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Adam Lindahl did his best to keep Benson in it, scoring 20 points. The Braves left some points on the court, however, as they made just 4-of-14 free throws.

The Wildcats toppled the Lakers, who posted an 18-6 record in the regular season, in the opening round of the Section 3AA Tournament.

Jacob Klavetter sparked a balanced New London-Spicer offense with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Six Wildcats scored at least six points, including Derrick Laudenbach with nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Jaden Hanson added 10 points as well.

Seth Goepferich had 12 points and nine rebounds for Lakeview.

NLS moves on to play Montevideo on Tuesday, a game that will take place in Granite Falls.

The Bluejays made it rain against Wabasso, sinking 14-of-27 three-pointers, shooting over 50 percent from the field, scoring 55 points in the first half and rolling to a 38-point win in the opening round of the Section 3A-North tournament.

Taylor Slagter had 31 points, seven rebounds and four steals and Tanner Stoel scored 20 points with nine rebounds.

Wabasso’s Tony Franta scored half of his team’s points with 27, but still didn’t get the game-high total due to Slagter’s big night.

CMCS plays Canby at Southwest MN State in Marshall on Tuesday.

The Eagles played well in the first half and got 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals from Lucas Strand, but Canby ultimately ended their season Saturday in the first round of the Section 3A Tournament.

Trailing by one at halftime, the Eagles allowed 39 second-half points to the Lancers and paid the price.

Connor Oie added 12 points and three steals for LQPV and Noah Jensen came up one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

For the Lancers, Matthew Sisk had 16 points and Matthew Slaba and Sawyer Hansen each dropped 15.
