Boys basketball roundup: Rocori downs Cards with strong first half

WILLMAR -- Rocori held Willmar to 35-percent shooting from the field and didn't surrender a double-digit scorer, resulting in a 59-44 Central Lakes Conference win Thursday.

WILLMAR - Rocori held Willmar to 35-percent shooting from the field and didn’t surrender a double-digit scorer, resulting in a 59-44 Central Lakes Conference win Thursday.
The Spartans (2-2, 5-3) led 31-16 at halftime before both teams scored 28 in the second half. Rocori - paced by Jon Olson’s 19 points - didn’t shoot much better from the floor - 42 percent - but they forced 15 turnovers.
“We played much better in the second half,” said Willmar coach Steve Grove. “We turned ball over way too much and got outrebounded in the first half. I was pleased with the effort and displeased with the effort.”
Noah Slager, Zach Radermacher and Luke Lippert scored eight points apiece for Willmar. Lippert also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and Austin Grove another six to help Willmar outrebound the Spartans 37-32.
The Cardinals return to action Tuesday when they head east to play at Dassel-Cokato in a non-conference game.
