MORRIS - Austin Dierks’ double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds - both game-highs - and 53 percent shooting sparked a Morris/Chokio-Alberta win over St. John’s Prep, 62-36, in the opening round of the Section 6AA-South playoffs Thursday.
The No. 3-seeded Tigers (19-7) will now meet No. 2 New London-Spicer at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s University in Collegeville in the sub-section semifinals.
NLS beat the Tigers 69-59 in overtime on Feb. 26 in Morris during a regular-season meeting.
Logan Manska was 5-for-5 from three-point range to finish with 15 points for MCA, which was 26-for-49 from the field to offset making just 5 free throws in 16 attempts (31 percent). The Tigers also got 8 points and 5 rebounds from Nic Vipond, 7 rebounds from Lincoln Berget, 4 assists from Chandler Erickson, and 3 assists and 3 blocks from Dierks.
R.J. Alpers drained 15 points for the No. 6 Johnnies (12-15).
