WILLMAR - In their “spring” debut Tuesday, the Willmar Cardinals played seven waterlogged holes in freezing cold at Brainerd before the meet was canceled.

Friday, at home, on a day so fair it should be trademarked, the Cardinals were more than ready to play a full round.

Tony Kallevig shot 76, Hunter Mottinger 77 and Levi Hauser 78 - the second-, third- and fourth-best scores, respectively - at Eagle Creek Golf Course, drenched in sun and warmth, both conditions atypical of the two-day Willmar/Litchfield Invite.

Those scores, plus an 88 by Zach Berget, put the Cardinals 21 stroke up on Hutchinson and Sartell, each at 340.

Josh Polingo leads the 36-hole event after a one-over 73. He’s the only holdover from the Litchfield Dragons squad that place third at Class AA State in 2013.

Riley Sigdahl of Lac qui Parle Valley is in a three-way tie for fifth at 82. Ethan Bohlsen of New London-Spicer is tied for eighth at 84.

The meet was rescheduled from April 11-12, cutting the field in half. Shotgun start is 8 a.m. today at the Litchfield Golf Course today.
