NEW LONDON - At least, it didn’t rain or snow. That could be said of the weather for the New London-Spicer Invitational at Little Crow Country Club on Friday.
The meet started in the 40s and got up to the low 50s by mid-afternoon. A stiff northwest breeze made it feel colder. The prep players expect such conditions and don’t seem to complain.
Troy Ryynanen, a Dassel-Cokato junior, shot a sparkling 37-36-73 playing Pines and Willows to lead the Chargers to the team championship. Litchfield’s Josh Polingo was next with a 76 after going out in par but faltering on the especially wind-whipped and watery Willow shooting a 40 (four water balls).
D-C finished with 326 strokes and runner-up Litchfield with 336. This counted, too, as a Wright County West meet so the Chargers extended their lead on the Dragons.
Ryynanen gained three strokes on Polingo in the WCC-South individual standings but still trails him by five.

Ethan Bohlsen, of the host school, finished sixth, while freshman Brady Madsen of MACCRAY was next at seventh. Both felt they played well in the conditions. Bohlsen would have scored much better but couldn’t make a birdie putt despite many golden opportunities. Madsen’s iron shots were strong to the pin as he matched his low score of the season.
