SAUK CENTRE - A group of four balanced scores after the first round of play Tuesday at GreyStone Golf Club has put Willmar in contention for the Section 8AAA title.

Senior Tony Kallevig paced the Cardinals with a 75, which puts him in a tie for ninth place. Not far behind were seniors Hunter Mottinger (76) and Zach Berget (78), and freshman Levi Hauser (76). The four scores totaled 305, just six strokes off the pace set by Buffalo.

The second and final round is today back at GreyStone GC and starts at 9 a.m. The winning team advances all of its golfers to the state tournament while the top five scores outside of the winning team also qualify individually for state.

Kallevig was the meet’s co-medalist last year - also at GreyStone GC - and Hauser also qualified for state in 2013 after finishing sixth overall.
