LITCHFIELD — Six different players popped the puck into the back of the net to lead Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato past Willmar in the season opener Saturday, 6-1.
Gavin Hanson put the Dragons on the board in the first period for the only goal in the opening 17 minutes.
Then in the second, Litchfield/D-C broke the game wide open. Logan Benson scored 49 seconds into the period, then got a tally from Zach Zwilling to make it a 3-0 game. The Cardinals finally got on the board at the 10:54 mark on an unassisted goal from Jason Malmgren before the Dragons’ Ryan Schutz one again made it a three-score game 16 seconds later. Caden Besemer and Keyton Johnson each punched in goals in the third.
Litchfield/D-C heads to Mound-Westonka/Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday. Willmar is on the road Monday at Windom.
