MARSHALL - Isaac Kobienia pocketed two goals and assisted on another goal for Willmar, but that was all the offense the Cardinals could generate Monday against Marshall as the Tigers skated to a 7-3 non-conference win.
Kobienia’s first goal came with just under two minutes left in the first period.
The score would stay 1-0 in Willmar’s favor for under four minutes as Marshall responded with a scoreless first period by netting four goals in the second period.
Kobienia then scored 2:41 into the third period and assisted on an Austin Smith goal just 53 seconds later to get Willmar within one. But the Tigers tacked on three goals in a six-minute span to clinch the win.
Marshall improved to 15-8 and Willmar dropped to 5-16. There could be a rematch later in the month as both teams are in Section 3A. The Cardinals won’t get much rest as they host Sauk Rapids today in a Central Lakes Conference game.
