FERGUS FALLS - Willmar fell behind 7-0 before scoring as Fergus Falls blasted the Cardinals 7-2 Thursday in a Central Lakes Conference game.
The fourth-place Otters (8-3-2, 16-5-3) scored a goal in the first period before netting two in the second and exploding for four in the first half of the third period. Kyler Peterson netted two goals and five teammates also scored for Fergus Falls, which handed Willmar its fifth straight loss.
Isaac Kobienia and Andrew DeJong scored 14 seconds apart late in the third period to help Willmar avoid being shut out for the sixth time this season.
The Cardinals (1-10, 5-18) are at Alexandria on Monday and host St. Cloud Apollo next Thursday to conclude the regular season.
