Boys Hockey: Willmar skates to third consecutive win

SAUK CENTRE -- Facing its final Section 6A opponent, the Willmar Cardinals came away with an impressive 7-2 victory over Prairie Centre on Friday night.

SAUK CENTRE -- Facing its final Section 6A opponent, the Willmar Cardinals came away with an impressive 7-2 victory over Prairie Centre on Friday night.

Grant Schow scored the first two Willmar goals in the opening period and later assisted on another goal. Gabe Amon had a goal and two assists.

"The line of Schow, Amon and (Tyler) Bredeson were moving the puck well tonight and created a lot of opportunities," said Willmar coach Dan Tollefson. "Overall, we had a lot of effort and generated some good shots."

The Cardinals, who won their third straight, led 4-0 after two periods with Cameron Swenson and Amon providing the goals.

Tommy Chester, Hunter Schneider and Preston Peterson all scored for Willmar in the third period.

Christian Yrttimaa made 25 saves in the Cardinal net.

Willmar (13-7-1) will play at Sauk Rapids on Monday before closing out the regular season Tuesday at St. Cloud Tech.

Reid Nelson and John Raisanen scored unassisted goals in the first period for LDC and Aaron Haataja scored in the second period for the Dragons, who avenged a 4-3 loss on Jan. 18 to Delano/Rockford.
