Boys Soccer: Cardinals, SC Tech play to scoreless tie

ST. CLOUD - The Willmar Cardinals boys soccer team has only scored one goal in their two Central Lakes Conference games, but that’s not necessarily bad.

The defense has allowed only one goal while playing two of the CLC’s leading programs. Last night it was a 0-0 overtime deadlock on the new turf at Husky Stadium. A week ago, the Cardinals and Apollo tied 1-1.

“I think we’re right up there with the best teams in the conference,” said Willmar head coach Jeff Winter. “It was a terrific game. Both teams had periods where they dominated but in overtime I thought our conditioning gave us the edge.”

Both teams got great goaltending. Willmar shooters put 11 shots on net.

Willmar sophomore Manny Obregon had six saves and three teammates each made a save.
