Boys soccer: Cards quiet Sauk Rapids

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals got back in the win column Thursday, scoring three first-half goals and shutting out Sauk Rapids 3-0 on Thursday at Kennedy Elementary.

WILLMAR - The Willmar Cardinals got back in the win column Thursday, scoring three first-half goals and shutting out Sauk Rapids 3-0 on Thursday at Kennedy Elementary.
The Cardinals improved to 3-1-2 in the Central Lakes Conference and 7-1-2 overall. They lost their first game of the season on Tuesday at Sartell.
Marcos Nino scored unassisted 4:18 into the game to put Willmar up 1-0. Nino assisted Matt Wiedeman’s goal at 26 minutes, and Nick McLouth, assisted by Jesus Nevarez, put one in at 55 minutes.
Willmar stifled the Sauk Rapids offense, allowing just one shot on goal.
The Cardinals next play Saturday at home against Mankato West.
The Willmar JV II team also plays an all-day tournament starting 8 a.m. Saturday at Willmar High School.
