WILLMAR - No. 4 Willmar Cardinals took three singles points and two more in the pairs competition on Tuesday to erase No. 5 New Ulm 5-2 in the first-round of the South sub-Section 2AA tennis tournament.
It was 90-degree with a hefty west wind blowing cross-court. Despite the adverse conditions, play was quite sharp.
Coach Jim Anderson said the big points came from 2-doubles (Nick Courtney/Nick Revier and 3-doubles (Alex Reynolds/Jaden Wright).
Preston Peterson, Isaac Yoakum and Jarod Swoboda won at singles.
“This was a big win for our young team after being overmatched in our last three conference matches,” said coach Jim Anderson.
