MANKATO - The Willmar boys tennis team put up a stout fight but fell to top-seed Mankato East in the Section 2AA tournament on Thursday.
Mankato East won toughed out three singles wins and also prevails in two three-set doubles matches to win 5-2.
The Cardinals’ Jarob Swoboda picked up a point at No. 4 singles and Willmar’s 2-doubles team of Nick Courtney and Nick Revier records a victory.
“Our game play was to get two points on the singles side and battle for two points on the doubles side,” said Cardinals head coach Jim Anderson. “We lost three tight three-setters that could have gone either way.”
Willmar’s 2-singles player, Issac Yoakum, lost in three sets, as did the 1-doubles team of Tate Hovland and Tom Nilles-Melchert and the 3-doubles team of Jaden Wright and Alex Reynolds.

The section individual tournament begins May 25 at Gustavus Adolphus College.
