Boys tennis roundup: Hansen, Maroney qualify for state

REDWOOD FALLS -- Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd's Jess Hansen defeated Montevideo's Ryan Maroney for the Section 3A singles championship, and both players qualified for the Minnesota State Tennis Tournament.

REDWOOD FALLS - Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd’s Jess Hansen defeated Montevideo’s Ryan Maroney for the Section 3A singles championship, and both players qualified for the Minnesota State Tennis Tournament.

Hansen defeated Maroney 6-0, 6-2 on Tuesday.

Earlier, Hansen defeated Luverne’s Andrew Jelken 6-4, 6-1 while Maroney took out Luverne’s Dustin Deutsch 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.

in 6A singles

ST. JOSEPH - New London-Spicer’s Tyler Halvorson lost in the Section 6A singles semifinals on Tuesday but rebounded to claim third place at the College of St. Benedict.

Halvorson lost to Foley’s David Schneck 6-2, 6-2 in the semis but then defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagles’ Laine Larson 6-0, 6-0 in the third-place match.

In doubles, the Wildcats’ team of Spencer Moller and Austin Laumb dropped a semifinals match and also fell in the third place match.
