Boys Tennis: Willmar edges Brainerd 4-3 to collect first win

WILLMAR -- Freshman Manny Obregon survived a three-set dual at 4-singles to give Willmar the decisive fourth point as the Cardinals edge Brainerd 4-3 Tuesday in their Central Lakes Conference opener.

Willmar also got straight-set wins from its top two doubles teams of Tate Hovland/Nick Courtney at No. 1 and Alex Bateman/Nick Revier at No. 2. Jared Swoboda also had a dominating win for Willmar, winning 6-1, 6-0 at 3-singles.

Willmar hosts CLC rival Alexandria on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before entertaining New London-Spicer, Hutchinson and Monticello on Saturday for a quadrangular beginning at 9 a.m.
