Brandon's late basket gives Montevideo win over New London-Spicer

MONTEVIDEO -- Eric Brandon drove the length of the court in about five seconds and made a layup to give Montevideo a 69-67 win over New London-Spicer in non-conference boys basketball action Saturday.

The Wildcats, who trailed by seven points with about three minutes left, crawled back into the game by fouling the Thunder Hawks, who struggled from the free-throw line.

An Aaron Johnson basket for NLS tied the game with seven seconds left.

Brandon shouldered the bulk of Montevideo's scoring at the end of the game. He made 7-of-12 free throws and finished with 29 points overall.

The Wildcats held a 37-32 halftime lead.

Brandon also pulled down eight rebounds and Ryan Boike added 19 points for Montevideo.

Erik Tengwall scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Jay Moten added 13 points and Justin Zylstra had 10 points and nine rebounds.
