Bynum slam leads Larks over Stingers

WILLMAR - Bismarck's Scooter Bynum hit a grand slam in the third inning and Willmar never recovered, falling to the Larks 7-4 in a Northwoods League game on Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Bynum connected off Stingers' starter Hayden Petrovick, who struggled with his control in 3-2/3 innings. Petrovick gave up five hits and walked five, and the Larks touched him for three more runs in the fourth inning.

Willmar's Myles Smith worked 5-1/3 strong innings in relief, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out six.

The Stingers mounted a mini rally in the late innings against Larks starter and winner Tyler Steele, but Jeff Lindren pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save.

Willmar's Tyler Reichenborn had two hits and Brady Shockey and Nate Sterijevski both drove in runs.


The Stingers wrap a two-game set against the Larks at 7:05 p.m. today at Taunton before opening a home-and-home set against Mankato at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Taunton. The Stingers and MoonDogs travel to play a 6:05 p.m. game on Sunday in Mankato.

Brady Bauman fired a two-hitter and Willmar Post 167 took care of Eden Valley-Wakins in six innings on Thursday in Willmar.

Bauman retired the first nine hitters he faced, but which time Post 167 led 7-0. He finished with just two walks and he struck out seven.

Bauman also was 3-for-3 and Avery Smith was 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Post 167 plays host to Morris at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
