KERKHOVEN - Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg's boys basketball team couldn't overcome a fast-paced Canby offense that used a hot-shooting hand to defeat the Saints 79-69 on Tuesday night.
The Saints took an early lead thanks to a strong effort by Tanner Rohner but the Lancers responded with a run of their own. The Lancers thrived behind the 3-point line, especially in the first half. They finished the game with nine field goals made from beyond-the-arc.
Canby took over in the near the end of the first half and ran to a 41-31 halftime lead. That lead was all that Canby ended up needing.
Both teams traded blows in the second half - both teams scored 38 second-half points.
Free throw shooting was one of the major differences down the stretch. The Lancers hit 11-of-17 second half free throws compared to the Saints' 3-of-6. KMS committed 12 fouls in the second half.

Lancer guard Sawyer Hansen scored a game-high 23 points, with 18 coming on 3-point shots.
Rohner led the Saints with 19 points, just ahead of teammates Brandon Rasmusson and Josh Peterson who both scored 15 points. Rohner also reeled in 10 rebounds to complete his double-double.
KMS will look to bounce back on Friday with a visit to Cottonwood to take on Lakeview.
