WILLMAR - Willmar scored a late goal to force overtime but mistakes in the extra period were the downfall as Sartell took the 3-2 victory.
The Cardinals got things going with an early goal from Madison Garberding in the first period and Sartell evened the scoreline with a Molly Mahowald goal midway through the second period.
The Sabres took the lead with less than five minutes to play but Cardinal captain Riley Schneider refused to let the game end, netting the equalizer with 2:10 remaining in the regulation.
Willmar took a pair of untimely penalties early in the overtime period, though, and Mahowald scored the game-winner in a 5-on-3 power play to take the victory.
Cardinal goaltender Bryton Carlson was forced to step up and she did just that with 40 saves.

Willmar will get back to the ice with a home game against North Wright County on Thursday.

Redwood Valley scored seven seconds in and Connor Nelsen rounded out the game with a hat trick in a 4-1 in Tuesday night's game.
Willmar's Ty Christianson tied it up with a power play goal 2:32 into the period but Redwood Valley took over the rest of the game.
Bailey Sommers finished with four points after assisting on all four goals.

Nash VanKlompenburg won a pair of individual races and was part of a first place relay team in a 106-80 Willmar win over St. Cloud Apollo/Rocori.
Garrett Shuldes took a pair of victories as well, finishing the 50-yard freestyle in 23.48 and the 100-yard freestyle in 51.55.
