HUTCHINSON - The Willmar girls basketball team played with undefeated Hutchinson but 10 Tigers scored and they defeated the Cardinals 69-60 on Saturday.
Willmar’s Courtney Hanson hit six 3-point shots and finished with 20 points, and Grace Sawyer went for 14 points.
“The kids played hard until the end but we were gassed,” said Cardinals head coach Dustin Carlson.
Willmar suffered its first loss in three games while the Tigers improved to 5-0.
Willmar was within five at halftime at 36-31, but Hutchinson’s Tori Wortz scored four straight baskets in the second half to widen the lead.

Willmar’s Heidi Sellmann finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and Cayle Hovland had seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Hannah Johnson scored seven points and had four assists and a pair of steals.
Despite the loss, Carlson said the Cards took positive things from the loss.
“The best part about this game is that we get better prepared for what the playoffs are going to be like,” Carlson said. “I like where we are and I know the girls are going to keep getting better.”
The Cardinals are off until playing Rocori in a Central Lakes Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Cold Spring.
