COLD SPRING - An early five-match win streak allowed Willmar to take control and head back home with a 39-26 Central Lakes Conference win over Rocori on Thursday.
It was the 20th-straight CLC dual win for the Cardinals, who are coming off back-to-back 8-0 CLC campaigns.
Willmar fell into an early 4-0 hole after Zavier Grefe collected a major decision for the Spartans, but the Cardinals won the next five matches to take a 24-4 lead.
Rocori and Willmar then traded wins over the next four weights before the Spartans notched three straight wins. But it wasn’t enough for Rocori as Colten Carlson’s second-period pin at 170 gave Willmar a 33-11 lead with just four matches remaining.
Willmar heavyweight Brady Reigstad closed out the dual with a 36-second pin.
