WILLMAR -- A snowy Saturday was much easier to handle for the Ridgewater men's and women's basketball teams after both won games to close out the Ridgewater Classic tournament at the college.
The men's team defeated Mesabi Range 77-70 in its lone Classic game, and the Warriors women's team earned a split of its two tournament games with a 56-36 win over the Gustavus junior varsity.
Both Ridgewater teams play today at home against the Concordia-Moorhead JV. The women start at 6 p.m. and the men follow at 8 p.m.

Warrior women rebound from tough loss

The Ridgewater women's team lost by 44 points to St. Thomas in the opening game of the Classic, and that came on the heels of an 18-point loss to the St. Benedict JV earlier in the week.
So picking up a 20-point win on Saturday was good salve for wounds, said head coach Carrie Ogdahl.
"That was good the our confidence," Ogdahl said. "After being beaten like that (against St. Thomas), it's a nice way to come back. Gustavus has good athletes and good players. They're not St. Thomas, but to beat them by 20? That's huge."
Shantel Kelly led Ridgewater (1-2) with 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Annie Winter and Sam Cunningham both scored 9 points.
