WILLMAR - A big third quarter lifted Minnesota West Community College to a 28-20 win over Ridgewater on Saturday at Hodapp Field.
The Warriors, days after forfeiting their three wins on the season due to an ineligible player, fell to 0-5.
After Ridgewater took a 7-0 halftime lead on an Eddie Collins TD reception, the Bluejays scored three times to go up 21-14 going into the fourth quarter.
MW’s RaQuan Carter pulled in a touchdown pass from quarterback Colin Brons in the fourth for some needed insurance, as Ridgewater’s Dominick Wise ran in a 3-yard score later in the quarter.
The Warriors were hurt by five lost fumbles and were held to just 23 rushing yards.
“Tough loss,” Ridgewater head coach Rob Baumgarn said. “If we hang onto the ball and not give up big plays on defense, the game is totally different. We have to regroup and get focused for next week.”
The game wasn’t without positives for the Warriors, however, as quarterback Tony Ayala passed for 366 yards on 36 completions and ran for a third-quarter touchdown.
Collins caught nine passes for 151 yards, and Chris Tidwell nabbed 15 passes for 131.
Ridgewater next plays Saturday at St. John’s JV.
