BRAINERD - As good as Central Lakes may be, Ridgewater head football coach Rob Baumgarn blamed his team’s 70-18 loss on Saturday on some Warriors players who gave up.
“Many players seem to just go through the motions,” said Baumgarn of his team’s final regular-season game. “Granted, there were some players that keep working but it was obvious that some players quit on each other.”
Central Lakes scored seven touchdowns before the Warriors could get on the board in the fourth quarter.
Raiders quarterback Jake Faber threw five touchdown passes and receiver Kieran Johnson caught four scoring passes, two from Faber and two more from backup Riley Atkinson.
Central Lakes ran for 293 yards - two backs surpassed 100 yards - and the Raiders gained another 332 through the air.
Ridgewater ran for 192 yards but managed just 21 passing yards on only three completions in 20 attempts.
Daniel Maras gained 108 yards on 13 carries and scored one the Warriors’ three TDs on a 71-yard run.
Defensively, Adihia Bell wrapped up his Ridgewater career with a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown and he also intercepted a pass.
C.J. Larkins scored the Warriors’ first TD on a 25-yard run.
But that was the extent of Ridgewater’s highlights.
“As a coaching staff, we were very disappointed in the amount of effort that we got from some of players,” Baumgarn said. “In all my years of coaching I have never seen this before. It is very sad to say this because this will be the last time several of the players will put pads on to play. We will regroup and a coaching staff and as a team to make the changes we need to get back to the standards we believe in.”
