ST. CLOUD - The Ridgewater volleyball team played St. Cloud Technical tough on the scoreboard, but Warriors head coach Joe Sussenguth saw plenty of areas for improvement in a 3-1 loss on Wednesday.
Two of the Warriors’ lost games were decided by two points, with one going to extra points. But SCT managed a 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25 victory.
“This match was tough to take as we continue to start most sets behind and serve receive pass below average,” Sussenguth said. “We gave St. Cloud too many points, through our unforced errors and at times the willingness to attack effectively.”
The Warriors had 12 errors in 94 attacks and 34 kills for a .234 kill percentage. They also had 11 errors on serve.
Natalie Feldhake played well, with 10 kills and a .364 kill percentage. She also had two block assists.
Bayley Kubesh and Ariana Hasti both had seven kills, and Kaitlyn Sterner had 31 set assists, three kills, two ace serves and eight digs.
Sussenguth said it’s on him to instill more confidence and urgency in his players, but that the Warriors need to do their part to improve.
“There are areas of our game where we need to mature in as individuals and as a team,” Sussenguth said. “Our desire to completely apply ourselves will determine how good we can be. I need to help this team find their way against higher quality opponents, but they have to be on board with the changes that need to be made.”
