WILLMAR - The Ridgewater Warriors opened their 2015 campaign by posting two wins at their annual two-day Ridgewater Classic on Friday.
The Warriors rebounded after losing the first set to edge Ellsworth Community College (Iowa Lakes, Iowa) 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 in their first match. They then upended the Mayville State University JV (N.D.) 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 15-7.
“We had two tough battles, but we found ourselves getting stronger as each match went on,” said Ridgewater coach Joe Sussenguth. “Our offense was balanced and we were able to rely on our serving as a part of our offense and defense.”
The Warriors play Lake Region State (Devils Lake, N.D.) at 9:30 a.m. and Central Lakes at 4:30 p.m. today to wrap up the tournament.
Central Lakes beat LRS 29-27, 25-22, 25-13 and Ellsworth 25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17 in other matches Friday.
