AUSTIN - The Ridgewater volleyball team stayed within range of Rochester and St. Cloud in the MCAC Southern Division race with a three-set victory over Riverland on Wednesday.
The Warriors won 25-18, 25-6 and 25-10.
Ridgewater (13-4 overall) improved to 6-2 in the division, just behind 6-0 Rochester and 6-1 St. Cloud. The Warriors have a matches remaining, both at home, against both clubs.
Once play began Wednesday, the outcome was rarely in doubt.
“It was great to see this team dictate play both offensively and defensively once we settled in,” said Warriors head coach Joe Sussenguth.
Ridgewater made 11 service errors but were able to correct the mistakes and regain control of the match, Sussenguth said.
Hailey Leiding led the Warriors with six kills and Natalie Feldhake and Brenna Olsen both had five.
Kaitlyn Sterner had 18 set assists and two service aces.
Feldhake and Leiding both had a block and Olsen had seven digs.
The Warriors play host to Western Technical at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
“Our defense had positive touches at the net and our back row defenders picked up a good share of their attacks,” Sussenguth. “I’m proud that we were able to be efficient and effective in every area of the game tonight.”
